“TRASH TO ART”
Recycled Art

WHAT IS “TRASH TO ART”?
‘Trash to Art’ is an ASA (After school Activity) initiated by me. As I was part of the OSC recycling and sustainability group last semester and for the following semester, I was inspired to think beyond just the recycling of paper. So, I put forward the idea of creating reusable items from ordinary household objects that we discard.

WHY?
Pollution, Global Warming and increasing landfill area are one of the leading environmental issues in today’s world. Unlike paper that takes a few weeks to decompose, plastic bottles take up to 450 years and tin cans up to 80-200 words, and nylon fabric up to 30-40 years. So, by making useable items from waste materials we will be helping in preventing pollution and amount of garbage disposal.

HOW?
By the means of Art, I will be introducing different ways to create, decorate and make objects from ordinary items we discard after using them once such as plastic bottles, tin cans, paper, glass bottles and even clothes after they’re worn out.

THE LEARNING OUTCOMES
This activity will meet all 8 learning outcomes. They are –
1.     Increased their awareness of their strength and areas for growth. It will help increase my awareness and give me more knowledge about art, recycling and its benefits.
2.     Undertake new challenges. I will be facing new challenges and difficulties, but I will work hard and complete these challenges.
3.     Planned and initiate activities. I will be planning new items to make and will encourage the group to initiate new activities.
4.     Worked collaboratively with others.  I will be working along with a group and I will also be teaching them how to make items.
5.     Shown perseverance and commitment in their activities. This is an activity throughout the semester. I will be working toward holding an exhibition at the end of the term showcasing the objects made by the group. This will require me to show commitment in order to achieve a good result.
6.     Engage with issues of global importance. Dealing with the issues of global warming, landfill and waste. By recycling objects and making reusable items we are helping in tackling these problems.
7.     Consider the ethical implications of their actions. We will be working on to prevent the increase in garbage, and the how to avoid throwing away plastic bottles after using them just once.
8.     Developed new skills. We will be using new and old techniques such as papier-mâché, cutting, painting, sewing and stitching. These will help us to develop new skills and improve on old ones.
