CAS - Recycling and Trash
to Art
WHAT
DO I ASPIRE TO ACHIEVE FROM CAS THIS YEAR?
With the beginning of a new
year, I hope to be more responsible and up to date with my CAS entries and
performance. I want to take more initiative and be more organized.
ENGAGING WITH AN
ISSUE OF GLOBAL IMPORTANCE
This term along with
Recycling as my Service, I will be starting a Creativity Group of my own called
“Trash to art”. Both deal with one of major problems we encounter in our life
today, the increase in pollution and wastage of valuable resources.
When we think of the word
“recycling”, we automatically think of recycling paper. However, in Trash to
Art I will be introducing the use of other types of objects and how recycling
common household items can lead to the creation of appealing and useable items.
Deforestation is one of the
key factors contributing to the green house effect and ultimately an increase
in global warming. Cutting down trees means less carbon dioxide being absorbed
from the atmosphere and oxygen produced. This increases the amount of CO2 in
the atmosphere and thus contributing to the greenhouse effect. Simultaneously
rises the issue of increase in other waste material such as plastic bottles
(coke, pepsi, mirinda), wine bottles, beer cans, tin cans, etc. So, with my
Creativity and Service, I will be playing my part in the society to do whatever
I can in eliminating waste and reusing items.
CONSIDERING
THE ETHICAL IMPLICATIONS OF MY CAS ACTIVITY
While collecting paper for
Recycling, we travel to many classes to collect the paper. Sometimes it can get
very tiring, but instead of giving up we take small breaks in order to regain
our strength and then continue collecting paper from every classroom. These
taught me that although its hard, I must act with honesty and sincerity, and
devote more strength to this Service. As I am one of the seniors in this
recycling group I need to set an example for the juniors and help motivate them
as well to work harder. So, from this term I will be more willing and take more
initiative to help in Recycling.
For one of my final
outcomes of my Creativity Group, I would like to stitch and design pencil
cases, bags and handmade items along with my group, and present them in a form
of an exhibition showcasing the work of the group throughout the semester.
I hope that this year of
2015 CAS will help me to understand myself and my surroundings more, in order
to be a more global and open minded person. And to be more culturally and
socially in sync with the world around me.
